P.5B investment for banana plantation in ARMM
Residents of Datu Abdullah Sangki town of Maguindanao need not go to nearby municipalities to work for other fruit plantations as Delinanas Development Corporation poured in P569 million worth of investments for a banana plantation that will employ 866 people in their municipality.
They believe in the capacity of the people of ARMM. That’s why they ask for their full cooperation on this project.
During its launching, Engr. Miguel Portuguez, Project Manager of the Banana Expansion Program said that the program will initially cover 550 hectares of land and another 500 hectares for its second phase.
Sakiran Hajan, chairman of the Regional Board of Investment gave assurance that security issues like extortion or kidnapping among the people involved in the program will not be a problem.
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao OIC- Governor Mujiv S. Hataman affirmed this and said that economic development is parallel to security.
Hataman also commended the Del Monte Philippines because it dared to invest in the region despite its negative image.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Samsodhen Sangki thanked the Del Monte Philippines for investing in their town.
We are very happy that Del Monte chose to invest in our municipality. Rest assured that we will take care of this investment.
Our people will no longer have to work in other towns because the jobs created by the opening of the banana plantation are made available in their municipality.
Hataman said that in the following weeks, he will meet with Del Monte Philippines representatives for a possible expansion of the Banana Expansion Program.
The target municipalities for the expansion are South Upi, North Upi, Datu Odin SInsuat and Parang.
The bananas on the other hand will be exported to the Middle East, America and South Korea.
