PNP race shaping-up with promotion of three senior police officers
THE race for the next chief of Philippines National Police (PNP) started to shape-up following Wednesday’s promotion of three senior police officers to the next higher rank.
Promoted were Director Alan Purisima, the PNP chief of directorial staff and Chief Supts. Leonardo Espina, director of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCPO) and Cipriano Querol, chief of the elite Special Action Force (SAF).
Purisima, widely perceived as Bartolome’s successor, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director General (Lt. General in the army) while Espina and Querol were promoted to the rank of director (Major General in the army).
The three newly promoted senior police officers, who are now perceived as top contenders for the top police post, were ironically belong to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 81.
However, PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr., played safe and said that all three newly promoted officers are very much qualified to succeed Bartolome as the next PNP chief.
“They are senior officers and all are considered for the next PNP chief… and we have there’s a process in the PNP for that,” Cerbo told reporters in a chance interview.
The PNP spokesman also described the three senior police officers as veteran and seasoned police officers that have excelled in their field and are highly capable to lead the police organization of 144,000 men.
“Yes… they are seasoned and very capable officers, we already saw how they perform and they have many accomplishments in their assignments and these accomplishments can speak for themselves,” Cerbo said.
