Police nabs two suspects in rape slay of high school student in Boracay
POLICE operatives have arrested in a remote village in Aklan two fraternity men tagged as the suspects in the rape-slay of a 16-year old high school student in Boracay Island about a year ago.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief, Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr., quoting reports identified the arrested suspects as Rodel Gelito and Joseph Onate, both from Malay, Aklan.
The CIDG chief said the two suspects were arrested Thursday last week at their respective residences base on a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Bienvenido Barrios of Branch 3, Regional Trail Court, Kalibo, Aklan.
Pagdilao said the arrested suspects, both are both members of Alpha Kappa Rho, are facing rape with homicide charges in connection with the death of a 16-year old girl in Boracay in 2011.
The CIDG chief added that fellow frat members have tagged the two as the primary in the rape and killing of the high school student.
In the reports, CIDG region 6 chief, Senior Supt. Eddie Benigay, said the victim along with seven other teenagers joined the fraternity initiation rites that were led by the two suspects.
The victim’s decomposing body was found after three days after the initiation rites inside a cave in Sitio Lapuslapos Hills, in Brgy. Balabag, Boracay Island, the CIDG said in the reports.
