Rebel killed in encounter in Compostela Valley
ONE communist rebel was killed as government troops and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels clashed Monday afternoon in a remote village in Compostela Valley, military reports said.
Lt. Colonel Cesar Molina, commander of the army’s 25th Infantry Battalion said in the reports sent to Camp Aguinaldo that the encounter took place at Sitio Bongabong in Compostela Valley.
The army official said that their troops were conducting security patrol operations at the said area when it chanced upon a group of 30 NPA rebels triggering a firefight.
The firefight between troops and rebels, the army official said lasted for an hour which resulted to the killing of one still unidentified rebel.
Troops recovered the body of the slain rebel as well as two high powered firearms, landmines and tents left behind by the rebels that fled towards different direction, the army official said.
