Roxas fears crime surge in areas hit by pyramiding scam
INTERIOR Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II expresses fears of possible excalation of violence and crimes in some areas in Mindanao that was hit hard by Aman Futures Goup pyramiding scam.
The interior secretary said that the Philippine National Police (PNP) was already alerted on possible surge of ‘petty crimes’ and intensify its manhunt operations against those behind in the multi-billion peso scam.
Roxas said that police will increase its visibility to avert escalation of ‘petty crimes’ in areas, particularly in Zamboanga del Sur, where thousands of residents have been skimmed off some P12 billion in investments.
Already the provincial police director of Zamboanga del Sur and chief of police Pagadian City have been reassigned for their apparent failure to prevent the scam from growing big and victimizing thousands of residents in Pagadian City.
“I have tasked the regional director to pay attention to a high probability of an increase in petty crimes because a lot of people [there] have lost money, their savings,” Roxas told reporters.
The interior secretary also said that they have already received ‘confirmed’ reports of at least two burning incidents that are related to the pyramiding scam of the Aman Futures Group Philippines in the region.
“There are some retaliations happening and we have received reports of at least two burning incidents… two homes have [already] been burned and there are threats and physical harm,” Roxas said.
The interior secretary said that its only normal for a person who lost his savings or money to run after the person to which he has given the money and these are fueling some ‘petty crimes,’.
“Pag nawalan ka ng savings, kung kanino mu ibinigay ang pera talagang hahabulin mo and unfortunately magkapitbahay ang mga ito, magkakilala ang mga ito, ngayon sabay sabay sila nabiktima nito,” Roxas said.
