Solon commends the 1st Filipino president of Woodbury University
A LAWMAKER has filed a resolution that commends and congratulates Dr. Luis Ma. Calingo for being the first Filipino to be installed as president of the Woodbury University in California, USA.
In House Resolution 2852, Rep. Winston “Winnie” T. Castelo (District, Quezon City) said Calingo’s accomplishment is a source of great pride and honor to the country.
“According to newspaper accounts, Calingo is the first Filipino president in the 128-year history of Woodbury and the second Filipino to head an American university,” Castelo said.
Castelo said Calingo’s brand of leadership was honed by the crucible of the Philippine martial law that suppressed freedom.
Calingo’s credentials showed he got his bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering (1976) and a master of science degree in urban and regional planning (1978) from the University of the Philippines.
“Calingo holds a master in business administration and doctorate in Philosophy degrees from the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburg,” Castelo said.
The Quezon City solon said that Calingo, who bears the innate resilience and fortitude of the Filipino, went from obscurity to greatness with his installation as president of Woodbury University.
