Suspect in death of UP coed surrenders – PNP
THE suspect in the killing of a nineteen-year old UPLB student yielded to the authorities Friday a day after the provincial government of Laguna offered a bounty of P400, 000 for his arrest.
The suspect, Benigno Cayetano Nayle, was accompanied by his grandfather when he yielded himself to the local police Friday morning, said by Senior Supt. Fausto Manzanilla Jr., provincial director of Laguna police.
The police official said Nayle was seen by at least two witnesses, bloodied and running away from the house of the victim, Maria Victoria Reyes, a 3rd year Agriculture student of UPLB.
Reyes’s body was discovered last November 19 inside her room with a deep stabbed wound in her left chest and was declared dead on arrival in the hospital, police reports said earlier.
Following the gruesome killing of the 19-year old agriculture student of the country’s premiere state university, the provincial government of Laguna dangled a P400, 000 bounty for the suspect arrest.
The police official said the suspect’s grandfather, Gonzalo Atienza and a former village chief in Tanuan City, Batangas decided to surrender his grandson to the police after learning of his involvement in the crime.
The suspect denied that he did the crime, but Manzanilla said that two witnesses, including a kin of the suspect, saw him bloodied and running away from the victim’s house.
Nayle was then brought to Camp Vicenter Lim, the headquarters of Southern Tagalog Police office in Canlubang, Laguna where he was presented to the authorities and members of the media.
