Cavite youth, students pledge to ‘level up’ for clean, honest election

DASMARIÑAS CITY, CAVITE—Few days before Christmas day, about 500 youth and students convene today to pledge for the youth’s active involvement in calling for clean and honest election.

With the theme, “Kabataan, Next Level Na!” the youth convention was held through the initiative of Kabataan Party-list Cavite chapter at San Francisco 1 Multi-purpose Hall, one o-clock this afternoon. The delegates marched to the event’s venue as they highlighted Dr. Jose Rizal’s famous maxim, “Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.”

“For the youth of Cavite, the Christmas season is a season for us to forge unity, advance youth’s active participation and call for clean and honest election,” Kabataan Party-list Provincial Secretariat Lawrence Edullantes said.

“There is a mission the great Messiah wants the youth to do in this time that our generation is stereotyped as apathetic and individualist,” he continued. “We are a generation of hope and renewal.”

“In 2010 national election, we cannot simply ignore the youth because we constituted 54 percent of the total voting population. We are active and we can do more. This is the essence of the ‘Kabataan, next level na’” Edullantes said.

The youth convention conducted a discussion on what they call “politics of change”, which they said to be the youth’s alternative to the dominant traditional type in the country’s political landscape.

“For a hundred years now, the Philippine politics has been dominated by, on one hand, political dynasties, where a few clans monopolize political power; and on the other, traditional politics, where ‘guns, goons and golds’ decide on political affairs. Both of these do not serve the genuine interests of the youth and the people if we are faithful to the tenets of democracy,” Edullantes added.

The convention held trainings on speaking, mass campaign, finance and alliance work, among others, and culminated with electing the party-list’s provincial executive committee and ratifying its general program of action for the next months until the election day on May.
