Child rights advocates support DOH iwas paputok campaign
CHILD advocates expressed support to the Health Department’s Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) campaign against holiday seasons injuries.
As form of their support, some 100 kids will emulate DOH
Undersecretary Eric Tayag in simultaneously dancing the ‘Opa Gangnam Style.’
Based from the Health Department’s data last 2011, 1,021 injuries were reported including 987 from firecrackers, 29 from stray bullets and 5 from firecracker ingestion. On the said statistic, 274 children aging 6-10 years old became victims of firecracker use.
Child welfare groups Akap Bata Party-List and the Community Response for Enlightenment Service and Transformation (CREST) will announce their scheduled ‘Iwas Paputok Parades’ in Manila and Marikina City before new year’s eve. Their ‘Iwas Paputok’ campaign will focus on diverting music and dancing as alternative in welcoming the year 2013 instead of using firecrackers.
Aside from 100 kids dancing, the group will also display different noise makers to welcome the new year including ‘torotot,’ whistles, tin cans among others.
