House cancels PAGCOR probe
PARTY LIST Rep. Teddy Casiño today reiterated his call to suspend the Entertainment City licence and expressed disappointment with the sudden cancellation of the scheduled probe on the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) anomalies of the House Committee on Games and Amusement.
I was supposed to raise this in todays scheduled hearing and I was dismayed when it was suddenly cancelled late yesterday afternoon. I was hoping that former PAGCOR consultants Rodolfo Soriano and Atty. Manuel Camacho would be there, as well as former PAGCOR chair Efraim Genuino and current chair Cristino Naguiat. The testimony of these key people are critical in shedding light to previous and current anomalies in PAGCOR, especially with its dealings with Kazuo Okada, said the solon.
As it is, Okadas companies from Universal Entertainment, Aruze USA, Eagle 1, Eagle 2 and Tiger Resort have all been treated very favourably by Genuinos PAGCOR, as well as up to now. It really appears that Okada has a “most favoured client” status, and even Atty. Jay Santiago, VP of Pagcor for Legal Affairs said that they are afraid of offending his companies because they have a huge investment in the country, added Casiño.
The worse thing is that as PAGCOR and the previous administration have apparently been favouring Okadas companies, even those mandated to investigate the anomalies seem to be also favouring them. The least the Aquino government can do is to suspend the provisional licence for the Entertainment City because of the many anomalies surrounding it; even Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cancelled the NBN-ZTE deal when it was exposed, Casiño said.
