Military reports more typhoon casualty in Mindanao
MORE than 40 persons were feared dead or missing from a mudslide that hit a remote village in Campostela Valley as Supertyphoon Pablo batters the Mindanao region with strong winds and rains Tuesday.
Initial reports from the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) said that there at least 20 civilians have been swept away by surging flashflood in Brgy. Andap in New Bataan town in Campostela Valley.
The EMC reports also said that the flashflood also hit an outpost of the army’s 66th Infantry Battalion in the said village killing one soldier and nine other army personnel were missing.
The EMC said in its reports that army personnel were encamped in the said area as part of forward deployment for rescue and disaster relief effort when the flashflood swept their post.
Several military trucks were dispatched in the area to transport rescue teams sent by the regional disaster agencies to areas affected by the Typhoon Pablo in the said province, the reports said.
The reports added that areas in Central Mindanao and Region 12 are experiencing power outages and communication problems as Typhoon Pablo toppled down electrical post and snapped communication lines.
