Senate approves RH bill in third and final reading
Voting 13-8, the Philippine Senate finally approved in third and final reading the Reproductive Health bill.
“With 13 affirmative votes, and 8 negative votes, no abstention, Senate bill 2865 approved on third and final reading,” Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.
The bill, also known as an act providing for a national policy on Reproductive Health and Responsible Parenthood, aimed to guarantee universal access to methods of contraception, fertility control, sexual education, and maternal care.
Aside from Sen Pia Cayetano, principal those voted in favor in the proposed measure are Senators Edgardo Angara, Joker Arroyo, Alan Peter Cayetano, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Franklin Drilon, Francis Escudero, Teofisto Guingona III, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Legarda, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Francis Pangilinan, and Ralph Recto
Those who rejected the bill are Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, and Senators Gregorio Honasan, Aquilino Pimentel III, Ramon Revilla Jr., Antonio Trillanes IV, and Manny Villar.
Senators Manuel “Lito” Lapid and Sergio Osmena III are absent during the voting.
