Three soldiers killed in Leyte ambush
THREE still unidentified government troopers were reportedly killed in an ambush staged by communist rebels in remote village in Leyte province Friday, military reports said on Saturday.
Initial reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, the military headquarters in Manila, said the ambush took place along the boundaries of Albuera and Burauen towns in the said province.
The reports said elements of the 78th Infantry Battalion were reportedly on patrol when they were ambushed by still undetermined number of communist rebels.
Names of the soldiers killed in the ambush were not yet available as fresh troops were dispatched in the area to conduct pursuit operations against the rebel group.
The ambush reportedly took place a few days after army officials declared Leyte province as free from communist insurgency.
