Workers greet Pacquiao a happy birthday
LABOR center Kilusang Mayo Uno greeted boxing champ and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao a happy birthday today, wishing that the “Pambansang Kamao” continues to fight for workers’ rights.
Pacquiao is co-sponsor of House Bill 375, or the P125 Wage Hike Bill, which was filed by Anakpawis Partylist Rep. Rafael V. Mariano and seeks to legislate a P125 across-the-board wage hike nationwide.
He also supported Task Force Obrero, a labor-led relief drive for victims of the heavy torrential rains that devastated Metro Manila and various parts of the country last August.
“A happy, happy birthday, Manny! For many years now, you have worked and fought hard to bring joy and pride to the Filipino people,” said Elmer “Bong” Labog, KMU chairperson.
“We continue to appreciate Manny for supporting a piece of legislation that’s one of the most important for the country’s workers. We know we can count on his support now that Congress is about to end,” he added.
The P125 Wage Hike Bill is currently awaiting a Luzon-wide consultation before the House Committee on Labor and Employment can make a report on it and transmit it to the House plenary for deliberations.
“Manny is a source of pride for Filipinos even when he is defeated. He showed humility when he accepted defeat in the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez and he also showed a warrior’s fighting will when he said he will win next time,” Labog said.
“Pacquiao remains true to his roots, trying to help workers and the poor in the best way he knows how. Workers are glad and honored to have found an ally in him,” he said.
