13 crime gang members killed in Atimonan, Quezon
THIRTEEN members of an alleged gun-for-hire group were killed in an encounter with government security forces Sunday afternoon in a remote village in Atimonan, Quezon, police reports said.
Reports at PNP operations center in Camp Crame said one police officer was also wounded in the said encounter that occurred at around 3pm along Maharlika Highway at Brgy. Tanauan in Atimonan, Quezon.
The reports said that prior to the encounter, police received an intelligence reports that member of a criminal group were about to passed at the said area prompting police and army troops to set-up a checkpoint.
At the said checkpoints, two SUV’s came and were tried to flag down by government troops, but instead, the occupants of the two SUV’s opened fire triggering a gun battle.
The reports said that the gun-battle, which lasted for over 10-minutes, resulted to the death of the 13 still unidentified members of the criminal group and the wounding of a certain Supt. Marantan.
Government troops were able to recover 10 firearms from the suspects, including an M14 and an M16 Baby Armalite rifle while the wounded police officer was brought to Lucena City for treatment.
The reports added that police are still conducting an investigation to determine the identities of the slain members of the still unknown criminal groups.
