A member of Abu Sayyaf Group wanted for string of cases in Basilan was arrested by joint military and police operatives during an operation early Friday in a sub-urban village in Taguig City, Metro Manila.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief for Metro Manila, Senior Supt. Roberto Fajardo, in a report, identified the arrested ASG member as Suhod Salasim alias Suhod.
Fajardo said Salasim was nabbed at around 6:30am Friday by joint CIDG and army intelligence operatives in an apartment in Tawi-Tawi St., Maharlika Village in Taguig City.
Two cartridges for 40mm M203 grenade launcher and an MK2 grenade were seized from Salasim, the police official said.
Fajardo said Salasim was arrested base on a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leo Principe of Regional Trial Court Branch 1 in Isabela City, Basilan for kidnapping and illegal detention charges.
The said charges stemmed from Salasim’s involvement in the kidnapping and hostage taking of workers of Golden Harvest Plantation in Brgy. Tairan, Lantawan sometime on June 2001.
The police official added that Salasim was also among the ASG members that abducted and held a 14-year old boy and several others as hostages for four months in several towns in Basilan.
Fajardo also said that Salasim was also wanted for the kidnapping of nurses in the infamous Lamitan Siege where a group of ASG bandits took control of the Dr. Torres Memorial Hospital in Lamitan, Basilan in June 2001.
Salasim is also involved in the kidnapping and illegal detention of teachers and students of Claret High School in Brgy. Tumahubong in Sumisip, Basilan and was formerly under the group of ASG commander, Isnilon Hapilon.
