Released pork of former solon, proof of DBM’s double standard – solon
ZAMBALES Rep. Mitos Magsaysay said that the Department of Budget Management’s release of P140 million in pork barrel to former Rep. Ruben Ecleo Jr. through a caretaker solon was proof of the DBM’s double standard.
“This just takes the cake. A former solon still gets his PDAF through a party list lawmaker while districts of opposition congressmen have been languishing for several years already because the DBM refuses to release their PDAF,” she said.
Magsaysay said that the DBM’s justification that the pork was released because it belonged to the people should have been the same principle that it thought of when the DBM decided to stop the release of the PDAF of several opposition congressmen, including herself, for several years now.
The lady lawmaker further lamented reports that the release of the funds was politically motivated as the funded projects are being used as a tool to boost the image of the caretaker solon – Akbayan Rep. Kaka Bag-ao, who is vying for a congressional seat in the May 2013 polls.
“What kind of decision making process was involved here? The PDAF should not be made as a tool to control congressmen, or to help them win elections which projects funded by pork will help them do. The pork belongs to the people. It does not matter that they belong to a district led by an administration or opposition solon. They are entitled to government services supported by these funds because this comes from their taxes. This just goes to show that the DBM does not really care about the people. Rather, it just does as it pleases without regard for legality, propriety or basic decency.”
