Senator’s tirades over fund releases shifted to recalling staffs
AFTER heating argument ensued on the P1.6M additional Maintenance and Other Operations Expenses (MOOE) distributed to 18 senators last December, now the rant between Senate leaders shifted to recalling staffs from the members of the minority bloc.
On Wednesday, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile admitted that he recalled some Senate secretariat employees from the offices of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, effective January `15, 2013.
However, Enrile pointed out that he gave such instructions to the Office of the Senate Secretary to recall these employees as early as December 6, 2012.
Earlier, Cayetano accused Enrile of employing GMA tactics against him not only in the distribution of “additional MOOE”, but also in the assignment of staff to his office which was recalled to their mother units.
“Senate secretariat employees assigned to my office were pulled out without explanation in a manner similar to the treatment I got when I was first elected as minority leader,” Cayetano earlier lamented.
Cayetano said the tactic is not new to him since when he assumed office as minority leader, instead of being given an office space allotted to the position; Enrile gave it for his staff to use.
But, Enrile further explained that there are still 2 Senate Secretariat employees who have remained assigned to Cayetano office, and one Secretariat employee still detailed to the office of Sen. Trillanes.
The Office of the Senate Secretary signed and issued such recall order last 3 January 2013, and effective only yesterday, 15th of January.
