PNoy shows puppetry amid Tubbataha damage
ANAKBAYAN assailed the US military’s continued influx of its warships, amid the still-uncompensated-for Tubbataha coral reef damages.
The USS Stockdale, a missile destroyer, arrived in the country today and is the third US warship to come here in three weeks.
“It’s as if nothing happened. It only adds insult to the injury and insults our laws and independence. It’s clear that they have no intent to take account for their atrocities against our country,” Anakbayan National Chairperson Vencer Crisostomo said.
“The P4.1 million grant the US will provide is not even compensation. No amount of money can bring back 250 years of coral formation nor undo the damage,” he said.
Anakbayan explained that the more US warships that stay here, the more harm it will bring to the Philippines as US presence means more atrocities and makes China, an emerging powerful capitalist country, even more hostile.
“For all their abuses, it is not too much to ask from them that they get out of here,” Crisostomo said.
“Is it not enough that they do damages to our environment, health and livelihood with their toxic wastes and outright recklessness? Is it not enough that our sovereignty and human rights are consecutively violated as long as they are here?” he said.
The youth group urged the government to junk the Visiitng Forces Agreement (VFA), which tolerates criminal acts by US soldiers in the country.
“The Aquino administration should hold the US Troops responsible, else they will only keep on commiting abuses against us,” Crisostomo said.
