Malabon Celebrates 24th Year of City University

With the overall marching call to “Aim High, Soar High!” the City of Malabon University (CMU) celebrates its 24th founding anniversary which commenced on February 12, 2018 at the campus grounds with jam-packed festivities set to culminate on February 15.

University President Ramon Maronilla welcomed guests and visitors in the opening program and after which CMU Board of Regents (BOR) Chairman and City Mayor Antolin Oreta III imparted his inspirational message.

Recalling the humble beginnings of CMU, Mayor Oreta set the tone of the occasion taking pride on its present gains and achievements.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through CHED Regional Director Leonila Calagui, CESO III attested support to the university’s aspirations by its timely award of the government recognition due CMU.

Formalizing the office of the University President, the BOR Resolution appointing Atty. Maronilla was stipulated by BOR Member Atty. Maria Martha Farolan, followed by the actual investiture directed by the City Mayor.

After the Oath of Responsibilities was orchestrated by the BOR Chairman, Maronilla readily accepted his role and vowed to address inherent challenges in the delivery of quality education for Malabonians as well as for nearby residents.

CHED Executive Director Atty. Julito Vitriolo, CESO III also graced the program, handing over the university ceremonial mace.

Various presentations, academic contests and games spiced up the entire first day of the event, including the basketball and volleyball semi-final clashes between the 4 colleges of the university and the Senior High School team.

The second day of the celebrations shall feature the ball game championship meet and an exhibition game between the CMU Varsity the Team Malabon in which Mayor Oreta himself is a team player.

The awaited Bingo Fest 2018 in the afternoon and the search for the 2018 Mr. and Ms. CMU at 6:00 PM shall wind up the day.

Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) sponsors shall be presented in the morning, before a singing contest dubbed as “Sing-Galing Competition” take place at 1:00 PM. after which the Academic Night Variety Show is set at 6:00 PM. on Day 3, February 14.

A number of fun and sales booths were set-up themed with the valentine season, adding to the excitement of the anniversary.  Such included the food stall cum dating booth “CaFeb-ibig” with a variety of “hugot” menu and the “Take a Picture” photo booth by the College of Technology.

Culminating the 4-day event, a Mass Exercise and Zumba dance sessions will warm up the Supreme Student Council’s (SSC) Palarong Pinoy featuring native team parlor games for fun and prizes of CMU student participants.
