18 PH athletes sasabak sa Thailand Open Track and Field Championships

MANILA – Magpapadala ang Pilipinas ng 18 atleta sa Thailand Open Track and Field Championships na nakatakda sa Nobyembre 28 hanggang Disyembre 1 sa National Athletics Center sa Samkhog district, Pathumthani province.

Napili ang mga atleta batay sa kanilang mga performance sa finals ng Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) weekly relay series na nagsimula noong Agosto 14 at natapos noong Nob.

Binubuo ang  lineup nina Leonard Grospe (men’s high jump), Alfrenza Braza at Mariano Masano (men’s 1500-m), Francis Medina (men’s 400-m hurdles), Jome Sequita, Mico del Prado at Edgardo Alejan (men’s 400-m) , Melvin Calano (men’s javelin), Janry Ubas (men’s long jump), Hokett Delos Santos (men’s pole vault), Albert Mantua (men’s shot put), Jelly Paragile at Melissa Escoton (women’s 100-m hurdles), Josefa Ligmayo at Sarah Dequinan (women’s heptathlon), Eloisa Medina (women’s 100-m), Joida Gagnao (women’s 3,000-m steeplechase) at Kath Khay Santos (women’s long jump).

Sa 2019 edition, ang Pilipinas ay pumuwesto sa ikaapat na may tatlong ginto, isang pilak at dalawang tanso.

Kumuha ng medalya sina Aries Toledo (men’s decathlon), Marestella Sunang (women’s long jump) at Natalie Rose Uy (women’s pole vault), ginto; Ubas (long jump ng mga lalaki), pilak; Ronne Malipay (men’s triple jump) at Dequinan (women’s heptathlon), bronze.

Nanguna sa medal tally board ang host country na Thailand na may 10 golds, 10 silvers at 15 bronzes na sinundan ng Malaysia (5-2-5) at Vietnam (5-2-2).

“Susubukan kong i-duplicate ang aking personal na best sa long jump at makuha ang gintong medalya sa darating na Thailand Open,” ani Ubas. Nagtakda siya ng personal best na 7.88 meters sa PhilSports athletics field sa Pasig City noong Linggo.

Nasungkit ni Ubas, na tubong Cagayan de Oro, ang pilak na medalya sa long jump (7.73 meters) at ang bronze medal sa decathlon sa Vietnam Southeast Asian (SEA) Games noong Mayo.RICO NAVARRO
