CALOOCAN City Mayor Dale Gonzalo ‘Along’ Malapitan has cited 19 members of the Northern Police District for the arrest of a bogus lawyer who’s allegedly been extor-ting unsuspecting victims.

Mayor Malapitan gave special recognition to the policemen under the leadership of NPD director PBGen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones through the city’s People’s Law Enforcement Board at the City Hall Complex recently.

The lawmen were part of a team that conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of Ruben Bonifacio Gabagat, 67, for estafa  or swindling and falsification by private individual and use of falsified documents, respectively.

The neophyte mayor but a former lawmaker was all praises for the police offi-cers for their immediate action in arresting the suspect who was pretending to be a lawyer to extort money from his victims.

“Such acts shall not be condoned as I expressed my gratitude to the police offi-cers for their hard work and dedication,” Malapitan added.

Meanwhile, acting PLEB chief Benjamin Roque said they continue prioritizing the needs of the uniformed personnel and conduct training and seminars to capacitate them in providing services to the public. Malapitan has vowed to continue recogni-zing the exemplary service of policemen in order to inspire their other colleagues to fully serve and protect the citizens.

The National Housing Authority  through its Emergency Housing Assistance Prog-ram has given a total of P10.95 million as cash assistance to some 907 families directly displaced by the Super Typhoon ‘Kiko’ in September in Batanes.

NHA General Manager Joeben said the cash aid was already handed to Batanes Provincial Planning and Development coordinator Marissa Antonio.

“It’s really a big help for them with the financial assistance extended by NHA Ge-neral Manager Joeben Tai, for sure they will be able to start recovering,” Antonio said.

GM Tai said he’s been continuously communicating with the local government units including those in remote areas all over the country to extend the much-needed assistance to the displaced and affected families.
