Manila, Philippines – Nagkaroon ng pagpapalit sa pangalan ng ilang key positions sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) upang mai-“align” sa military organizations ng ibang bansa.

Ayon kay AFP spokesman Major General Edgard Arevalo, tinatawag ding Chairman of the Joint Chiefs ang AFP chief of staff, kasunod ng direktiba ng Department of National Defense noong Hunyo 19.

“Ang reason is we would like to be aligned with, coordinated with the convention… kung papaano tinatawag ‘yung ating mga counterpart AFP organization or Armed Forces in the world,” pahayag ni Arevalo.

Aniya pa, tatawagin nang Chief of the Joint Staff ang Deputy Chief of Staff of the AFP habang kikilalanin nang Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs ang AFP Vice Chief of Staff. Narito rin ang ilang pagbabago sa title ng pangunahing service commanders:

  • Commanding General Philippine Army – Chief of the Army

  • Commanding General Philippine Air Force – Chief of the Air Force

  • Flag-Officer-in-Command Philippine Navy – Chief of the Navy

Layon nitong magkaroon ng epektibong command, control, at pangangasiwa ng Chief of Staff of the AFP o ng Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

“This envisions to make the AFP more responsive and capable to address current and future non-conventional threats,” pahayag nito.

“As Chief of Staff and the Head of the AFP, he will have the operational supervision and control over the Joint Force Commanders of the Unified Commands who are the ‘force employers,'” dagdag pa ni Arevalo. RNT/MM
