BRP Melchora Aquino umarangkada na pauwi sa Pinas

MANILA, Philippines- Umarangkada na ang pinakabagong 97-meter, multi-role response vessel (MRRV) ng Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) mula sa Japan at inaasahang darating sa bansa sa Hunyo 1.

Sa isang talumpati, sinabi ni PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu na ang BRP Melchora Aquino, ay“another brand-new capital ship” katulad ng BRP Teresa Magbanua.

“This sturdy white ship will serve as the stalwart protector of our maritime reserve, and instrument for peace and tranquility within our territorial waters,” pahayag ni Abu.

Ito umano ang magsisilbing “symbol of hope,” “source of national pride,” at magsisilbing instrumento sa pagsusulong ng rule of law sa dagat at “enhancing amity among neighboring nations.”

Gawa ng Mitsubishi Shipbuilding at pinondohan sa pamamagitan ng Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), sinabi niya na sumisimbolo ang barko sa  “strong partnership and cooperation” sa pagitan ng Japan at Pilipinas.

Sa isang hiwalay na talumpati, sinabi ni Transportation Undersecretary for Maritime Admiral George Ursabia Jr. (Ret.) na parehong binili ang BRP Melchora Aquino at BRP Teresa Magbanua sa ilalim ng Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project Phase 2.
