MANILA, Philippines- Ibinaba na ang alert level sa bulkang Taal Volcano mula sa 2 (decreased unrest) sa 1 (low-level unrest), ayon sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) nitong Lunes.

Inihayag ng PHIVOLCS na sa nakalipas na dalawang buwan, naobserbahan sa Taal Volcano ang pagkakaroon ng “baseline volcanic earthquake activity, stabilizing ground deformation of the Taal Caldera and Taal Volcano Island edifices and weak degassing and surface activity at the Main Crater.”

Subalit nagbabala ang PHIVOLCS na sa Alert Level 1, “sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can still occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island (TVI).”

“DOST-PHIVOLCS is lowering the alert status of Taal Volcano from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1 to reflect the overall decrease in the level of monitoring parameters. Alert Level 1 means that the volcano is still in abnormal condition and should not be interpreted that unrest has ceased or that the threat of an eruption has disappeared,” pahayag nito,

Batay sa ulat ng PHIVOLCS, ang daily average volcanic earthquakes sa bulkang Taal ay bumaba mula sa pitong pagyanig kada araw sa pagitan ng Enero 1 at Mayo 31, 2022 sa zero events kada araw mula Enero 13, 2022.

“The sustained seismic quiescence for the past month indicates that degassing and rock-fracturing processes related to magmatic activity beneath TVI have abated, and that the possibilities of magma intrusion into the Main Crater have significantly decreased,” anito.

Gayundin, ang average ng ibinubugang sulfur diocide ng bulkan ay nasa 1,214 tonnes pkada araw mula Mayo at Hulyo 2022.

“Such low concentrations are consistent with weakened degassing from magma beneath TVI and volcanic gas being efficiently absorbed by the Main Crater Lake and by Taal’s recovered hydrothermal system,” paliwanag ng PHIVOLCS.

Samantala, nakapagtala rin ng “weak emission” sa surface ng bulkan na nasa “300- to 2,400-meter tall steam-rich plumes from fumaroles or active gas vents on the main crater.” RNT/SA
