Every person who lives on earth has at least one dream that she has decidedly instilled in her heart and mind.

As students, we have goals that we are too eager to accomplish. Apart from these goals, there are some tasks that we must complete even if in the first place they do not suit our interests. The constant ups and downs of life can often times be overwhelming.

Have you ever felt the need to keep on running even if you are already exhausted because if you don’t, in the end, you will also be the one to suffer the consequences? If your response is in the affirmative then the nagging questions are:What are you actually living for? Are you living for yourself or for the sole purpose of survival? In the phenomenal book titled “101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think,” author Briana Wiest noted that people cannot actually determine what will make them happy.

Recall a moment in your life wherein you wanted to buy a certain thing (it may be a gadget, a concert ticket, an outfit, etc.) After getting what you wanted, did you feel complete satisfaction? Were your wants finally extinguished? Well, most are definitely not.

It may be hard to believe but sometimes we even miss the things that we used to hate. This proves that people’s needs and wants are endless and insatiable.

And that is the problem with most of us. We tend to focus more on the things that we don’t have rather than on the things that we already possess. We tend to focus on the things that we can’t control rather than on the things we can.

Why not just live in and for the moment? Why not just appreciate and enjoy the process (or journey) because someday everything will just be pure and simple memories.

Don’t worry too much about what may happen in the future because the future is still in your hands. And some of your worries and anxieties might not actually happen. Indeed, the things or situations that we worry or overthink about most likely do NOT happen in real life. Be kind to yourself and recognize even the minuscule efforts that you give to make yourself better. Be proud of every single tear you shed-and yet you still choose to stand up and plod on. Always remember that in this journey you are not alone. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness–but of strength. These may all sound clichés but as a mentor of mine used to say, “Sometimes, people only need to be reminded.”

Dreams and goals may help us to be directed to the right path. They become our driving force to keep striving.

However, always remember not to overwork yourself and focus too much on the outcome–to the point that you already forget the true meaning of life. The way you grow throughout the process is what we call SUCCESS. Be proud of yourself for trying. Be proud of the courage you have inside your heart.

Keep your faith in our Creator and in yourself. Don’t give up. Just take your much needed time to rest.
