Cash aid hirit sa mataas na inflation

MANILA, Philippines – Iminungkahi ni Marikina Rep Stella Quimbo ang pamamahagi ng cash aid kasunod ng pagtaas ng inflation rate na nagresulta para lalo pang maghirap ang may dalawang milyong Pinoy.

Sa budget briefing ng Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC), sinabi ni Quimbo na ang ibibigay na cash assistance ay maaaring kunin sa P11.9-billion na nakolekta sa dagdag na value-added tax (VAT).

Ayon kay Quimbo sa pag-aaral ng Asian Development Bank, ang pagtaas ng inflation ng 10% ay magreresulta ng dagdag-pahirap sa may 2.3 million Pinoy.

“With an 11.2 percent food inflation rate that we are currently experiencing, nadagdagan ng 2.58 million ang bilang ng mga mahihirap na Pilipino” pahayag ng mambabatas.

Giit ni Quimbo, may magagawa ang Kongreso para tugunan ang epekto ng mataas na inflation rate.

“There are more nuanced questions such as: Should Congress insist on the re-convening of the inter-agency unit on economic intelligence to intensify enforcement against agriculture cartels which have been engaged in hoarding and price manipulation? Should Congress grant the Department of Agriculture or the President additional powers to enforce food price stabilization measures?” pahayag ni Quimbo.

Sa panig ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez, sinabi nito na dapat kumilos ang Kongreso at economic managers para matugunan ang economic problems.

“We are here together to see how we can work hand-in-hand and we’d like to very much hear from our economic managers how we can engage and make sure that our functions here in the Congress would become more meaningful, more responsive to the needs of the Filipino people,”pahayag ni Romualdez sa nasabing pagdinig.

Una nang sinabi ni Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno na naghahanda na ng panibagong ayuda sa ilalim ng Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) program ang Marcos Administration, dalawang buwan subdsidy na P1,000 kada buwan ang pinag-aaralang ibigay ng gobyerno sa may 9.3M na mahihirap. Gail Mendoza
