“In social contract theory, in exchange of the votes that we give to our elected officials, they promise to guarantee our enjoyment of human rights,” lahad ni CHR said through Spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia.

“That is very much evident during the campaign season. We do see many of those who ran for office promising, for example, the provision of basic services, which pertain to the human rights of people.”

“The sad reality, however, is that many of those promises are forgotten once elected officials are sworn in,” dagdag pa nito.

“By virtue of the trust reposed upon our officials, then there is a corollary responsibility on their part to ensure human rights fulfillment,” punto ni De Guia. RNT/FGDC
