Comelec, inaasahang aabot sa 100 ang ‘nuisance’ candidates

Manila, Philippines – Inaasahan na ng Commiission on Election (Comelec) ang nasa 100 nuisance senatorial candidates na magpapasa ng kanilang certificate of candidacy (COC) sa kanilang head office sa Intramuros, Manila.

Ayon kay Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, noong nakaraang eleksiyon ay may 90 nuissance candidates silang diniskwalipika.

“Siguro aabot din tayo ng 100,” pahayag ni Guanzon sa press briefing kasunod ng pagpunta ng isang lalaking nagpakilalang dating asawa ni Kris Aquino at isa ring nagsabing ex naman ni dating Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.

“Demokrasya po ito eh. Personal ko lang na opinyon ito. Sa akin, karapatan ‘yan ng citizen, basta natural born, able to read and write,” paliwanag ni Guanzon kung bakit hindi nila mapipigilan ang pagpasa ng mga ito ng kanilang COC.

“Ayokong dagdagan ang definition ng nuisance candidates kasi dapat inclusive ang election. Lahat pwedeng tumakbo,” aniya .

Samantala, nilinaw naman ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, na hindi basehan ang pera para maging kwalipikado sa Senatorial race.

“Kailangan ‘yung may kakayahang mag-conduct ng nationwide campaign. That is very important for senators. But it is also very important to understand that it is not about money,” aniya. “One can have less money than the other, but the one who has less money could be better suited for a national campaign because he or she has [enough] supporters”.

Ayon sa Omnubus Election Code, ang nuisance candidates ay ang mga nagpapasa ng kanilang COC, “in mockery of the election process; to cause confusion among the voters by the similarity of the names of the registered candidates or by other circumstances or acts which clearly demonstrate that the candidate has no bona fide intention to run for the office for which the COC has been filed.” (Remate News Team)
