Dagdag-work benefits sa media workers isinulong sa Kamara

MANILA, Philippines – Isang panukala na magtitiyak na mabibigyan ng security of tenure, hazard at overtime pay, mandatory insurance coverage at iba pang benepisyo na kahalintulad ng sa private at government employees ang inihain kahapon sa House of Representatives.

Layon ng House Bill No 304 o Media Workers Welfare Act na inihain nina Camarines Sur Representatives Luis Raymund Villafuerte, Tsuyoshi Anthony Horibata, Miguel Luis Villafuerte at Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Nicolas Enciso VIII na mabigyan ng akma lamang na benepisyo na dapat matanggap ng mga media workers.

“It is unfortunate that the very same people behind it are usually the ones whose labor rights are ignored, such as those pertaining to security of tenure, hazard pay, night shift differential pay and overtime pay, among others,” nakapaloob sa panukala.

Sa ilalim ng panukala ang sahod ng entry-level sa media workers ay dapat itakda ng National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) o Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) at inaatasan ang Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na bumuo ng News Media Tripartite Council na magbabalangkas ng policy decisions para sa media industry.

Hiniling din sa panukala na magkaroon ng hazard pay P500 kasa araw sa mga media workers na nagkokober ng mga mapanganib na assignment gaya ng embattled zones, contagion, radiation, volcanic eruption, distressed o isolated stations, disease-infested areas at mga lugar na ideneklarang nasa state calamity or emergency.
