MANILA, Philippines- Muling pinagtibay ng Japan ang suporta nito sa posisyon ng Pilipinas hinggil mga maritime issues, lalo na pagdating sa sitwasyon sa West Philippine Sea, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs nitong Miyerkules, Marso 29.

Ayon sa DFA, ang naturang pagsuporta ay nabanggit sa ikalimang maritime dialogue ng Pilipinas at Japan sa Tokyo.

“The delegations exchanged views on issues of mutual interest; particularly the situation in vital waterways of the West Philippine Sea, Luzon Strait, Sulu-Celebes Seas, and the East China Sea; regional efforts to maintain peace and stability; and climate change,” pahayag ng departamento.

Dagdag pa ng DFA, muling kinumpirma ng Japan ang pugsuporta nito sa 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea, kung saan tinukoy na hindi naaayon sa batas ang mga ginagawa ng China sa West Philippine Sea – kabilang na ang pagpapatupad ng nine-dash line, at land reclamation sa mga isla na sakop pa ng Pilipinas.

Pinamunuan ang nasabing dialogue nina DFA Assistant Secretary for Maritime and Ocean Affairs Maria Angela Ponce at Deputy Director General Hayashi Makoto ng Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department.

Kasama rin ni Ponce ang mga kinatawan ng Department of National Defense, Department of Transportation, National Security Council, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Space Agency, at National Mapping and Resource Information Agency. RNT

MANILA, Philippines- Nanawagan si Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin nitong Huwebes sa The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) for 2022 na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang adbokasiya at gawin ang Pilipinas na “land worth living in and loving.”

Si Bersamin ang guest of honor at speaker sa awarding ng TOYM 2022 sa Malacañang Palace.

Sinabi ni Bersamin sa awardees hindi dapat maging finish line ng kanilang pagsisikap sa kani-kaniyang larangan at adbokasiya ang seremonya.

“Our country desires you to continue individually in the fields [in which] you have been recognized today. Better still, I urge you to act as one group of inspiration and motivators for others,” pahayag niya.

MANILA, Philippines- Isinasailim na sa mga pagbabago ang immigration procedures bunsod ng sunod sunod na reklamo ng mga pasahero laban sa mga umano’y abusadong tauhan ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa NAIA.

Tiniyak ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na hindi nito palalampasin kung mapatutunayan na nagpakita ng hindi tamang asal ang mga Immigration officer sa pagganap sa kanilang tungkulin sa pag-screen sa mga papaalis na pasahero.

Gayunman, binigyan-diin ng DOJ ang kahalagahan ng laban kontra human trafficking.

Ayon sa DOJ, kasalukuyang nirerebisa ng Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) ang Departure Formalities upang mapaayos ang usad sa mga immigration counters at maiwasan na ang abala sa mga biyahero dahil sa ipinaiiral na Departure Formalities.

Naniniwala ang kagawaran na nagiging malikhain na ang mga human trafficker sa kanilang modus upang maipuslit palabas ng bansa ang mga nagiging biktima kung kaya mahirap matukoy ang regular na pasahero sa biktima ng human trafficking.

Dahil sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng departure formalities, nasa 6,788 na biyahero mula sa kabuuang 1,056,247 ang naapektuhan mula Enero hanggang Pebrero 2023.

Magugunitang inireklamo ng ilang biyahero ang sobrang tagal ng pagtatanong ng mga Immigration officers kung kaya naiiwan sila ng sasakyang eroplano. Teresa Tavares

Sa ulat na nakarating kay Nueva Ecija director, P/Col. Richard Caballero, kinilala ang biktima na si Zaldy Matias y Gonzaga, may asawa, residente ng #149 Libis Drive, Brgy. San Nicolas, nasabing lungsod.

Sa inisyal na imbestigayon, lumabas na dakong alas-7:30 kagabi nang mangyari ang pamamaril.

Diumano ay kasalukuyang nakaupo ang biktima sa harapan ng kanyang bahay nang bigla umanong pagbabarilin ng mga hindi kilalang suspek.

Ganap naman na alas-8:20 ng gabi nang makarating sa tanggapan ng Gapan City police ang impormasyon hinggil nangyaring krimen.

Kaagad rin na kumilos ang kapulisan upang i-verify ang nabatid na insidente ng pamamaril sa nabanggit na barangay.

Naisugod pa ang biktima sa ospital subalit kaagad ring binawian ng buhay.

Si Matias ay dating board member sa ika-apat na distrito, taong 2007-2010; at dati ring naging miyembro ng Sanguniang Bayan, taong 1998-2007.

Sa isinagawang imbestigasyon ng Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), matapos umano ang pamamaril ay mabilis naman na nagsitakas ang mga suspek.

Patuloy naman na nagsasagawa ng mga interview mula sa mga umano’y nakasaksi sa pangyayari at pangangalap umano ng mga CCTV footages para sa posibleng pagkakakilanlan ng mga nakatakas na suspek. Elsa Navallo

MANILA, Philippines- Naghayag ng pagsuporta ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas para sa pag-endorso ng Estados Unidos ng Summit for Democracy Declaration.

Iyon nga lamang, kaagad na inihiwalay ng Pilipinas ang sarili nito mula sa anumang reference sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sa isang kalatas na may petsang Marso 29, ang Pilipinas, sa pamamagitan ng Department of Foreign Affairs, nakiisa sa Estados Unidos at iba pang bansa sa pagsuporta sa nasabing deklarasyon, sabay sabing ito’y isang “testament to our unwavering commitment to upholding our democratic values and principles and to strengthening our democratic institutions for the benefit of the Filipino people.”

Subalit, inihiwalay na kaagad ng Pilipinas ang sarili nito mula sa “Declaration’s reference to the International Criminal Court (ICC).”

“While the current language provides a qualifier that the ICC’s role may be acknowledged provided it abides by the principle of complementarity, the Philippines’ earlier decision to withdraw from the ICC was precisely because the Court failed the test of complementarity,” ayon sa Pilipinas.

Ayon naman sa report ng Reuter, inanunsyo ni US President Joe Biden ang bagong funding para palakasin ang demokrasya sa buong mundo at maging ang tulungan na labanan ang korapsyon, suportahan ang malaya at patas na eleksyon at isulong ang teknolohiya na sumusuporta sa democratic governments.

Ito’y unang inendorso ng 73 bansa.

Sinabi ng report na “Twelve of those dissociated themselves from parts of the text, including India, Israel and the Philippines, which all opted out of a part backing accountability for human rights abusers and acknowledging the importance of the International Criminal Court.”

Pinanindigan naman ng Pilipinas na hindi nito kinikilala ang kapangyarihan ng ICC.

Binigyang diin nito at iginiit ang hurisdiksyon ng pamahalaan na mag-imbestiga at mag-prosecute ng mga krimen kabilang na ang di umano’y committed sa gitna ng bloody campaign laban sa illegal drugs.

Matatandaang, kumalas ang Pilipinas mula sa Rome Statute, nagtatag ng ICC, noong Marso 2019, sa ilalim ng liderato ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte, naglunsad ng giyera laban sa ilegal na droga.

“The (Philippines) maintains that the rule of law and accountability are fully functioning through its criminal justice system and efforts to improve mechanisms, such as the AO35 Mechanism,” ayon sa DFA.

“The (Philippines) upholds its commitment to fight impunity for atrocity crimes, notwithstanding the country’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute, especially since the Philippines has a national legislation punishing atrocity crimes,” dagdag na wika nito.

Samantala ang DOJ, sa ilalim ng liderato ni dating Secretary Menardo Guevarra, ngayon ay Solicitor General, ay nagpahayag na ang AO35 ay nakatuon sa “resolving cases of political violence such as extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture, among other similar grave human rights violations.” Kris Jose
