MANILA, Philippines – Kapwa napagkasunduan ng Pilipinas at India na palakasin ang kanilang depensa at security partnerships at maging ang chart strategic directions para sa long-term bilateral relations.

Nakipagpulong si Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro sa Indian delegation sa pangunguna ni Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sec. Saurabh Kumar upang talakayin ang “Philippine-Indian cooperation on defense and security” at maging maritime partnership sa isinagawang 4th Philippines-India Strategic Dialogue noong Agosto 18.

Nagpalitan din ang dalawang opisyal ng kani-kanilang mga pananaw ukol sa direksyon ng Philippine-Indian cooperation on strategic matters para naman sa mga susunod na taon.

Ayon sa DFA, ang iba pang paksa na tinalakay sa pulong ay ang “counter-terrorism, disaster risk reduction and management, transnational crime, intelligence exchange and procurement of defense equipment, as well as the impact of regional and global developments on the two countries and the region.”

Isang araw bago ang Strategic Dialogue, nag-convene ang delegasyon sa 13th Philippines-India Policy Consultations, kung saan mayroong mas malawak na pananaw sa bilateral relationship, at napag-usapan ang “political, economic and people-to-people cooperation.”

Samantala, kapuwa sinang-ayunan ng Pilipinas at India na palawakin ang “cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, culture, education, and tourism.”

“Lazaro and Kumar also discussed new areas of partnership in financial technology, space cooperation, development cooperation, and renewable energy,” dagdag na pahayag ng DFA. Kris Jose
