DOH: ‘Rare’ side effect ng J&J COVID-19 vax, ‘very low’

MANILA, Philippines – Siniguro ng Department of Health ang publiko, Martes, na napakabihira lang umano o”very rare” ng makukuhang nerve disorder dahil sa pagtuturok ng Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Ayon pa sa DOH na mas malaki pa rin ang benepisyo na maibibigay ng pagbabakuna kaysa sa panganib na mangyayari tulad ng pagkasawi o pagkakaospital.

“This increased risk still remains very low. Current data still shows out that the benefits of getting vaccinated and the protection from COVID-19 hospitalization and death still outweigh the risks for any reported reactions to vaccines,” ayon naman kay Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

Nauna nang binago ng United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang label ng J&J vaccine na kinabilangan na ng impormasyon ukol sa “increased risk” ng Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).

Ayon sa US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ang GBS ay isang “rare autoimmune disorder in which a person’s own immune system damages the nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis” kung saan karamihan ng tinatamaan ay nakarerekober naman.

Dahil dito, pinayuhan naman ni Vergeire ang publiko na agad na iulat kung makararanas ng sintomas ng GBS sa kanilang local vaccine operations center. RNT
