MANILA, Philippines – Inatasan ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ang lahat ng television at radio companies na magsumite ng kanilang block time deals para sa ‘approval’ ng ahensiya.

Nakasaad sa memorandum na ipinalabas ng NTC na may petsang Hunyo 23, ang mga block time deals ay hindi dapat na mahigit sa 50% ng daily airtime broadcast ng radio o television station.

“Authorized radio and television broadcast entities, its management and board of directors shall be solidary liable with the block timer for any violation committed by the block timer arising from the content or programs under the block time agreements,” ang nakasaad sa memorandum ng NTC.

Kontra naman ang Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas sa nasabing direktiba.

“We believe it is the station’s prerogative to choose the type of programs they will adopt whether it is station produced, co-produced with another party or [throgh] blocktime with 3rd party. We believe NTC has no jurisdiction over content,” ayon kay KBP President Herman Basbano sa isnag kalatas.

“Our position should have been heard before the issuance of this order on blocktime. Nonetheless [we] will present our opposition and our position in the NTC hearing [which] was reportedly scheduled on July 11,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

“VP Sara was invited for a side event of the United Nations, something to do with education,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Matatandaang, itinalaga ni President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. si Duterte na pamunuan ang Department of Education.

“The said event will take place ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 20,” ayon kay Romualdez.

DAVAO CITY – Sinakal hanggang sa mamatay ang 30-anyos na babae matapos na hindi ituloy ang kasal sa kanyang kinakasama.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Maliry Bitil Gumanan, 35-anyos, residente ng bayan ng Magsaysay sa Davao del Sur.

Lumabas sa imbestigasyon ng Davao Police Office na natagpuang patay ang biktimang si Joan Balabagan Lintang sa loob ng rest room sa isang inn sa kahabaan ng C.M. Recto sa Barangay 35-D noong Hunyo 26.

Sinabi ng mga awtoridad na nag-check-in ang mag-asawa sa inn bandang alas-12 ng tanghali. Gayunpaman, nagkaroon sila ng away matapos na ipagpaliban ng biktima ang kanilang kasal.

Sinakal ni Gumanan si Lintang hanggang sa mamatay pagkatapos ay itinago ang katawan ng biktima sa loob ng rest room bago tumakas sa pinangyarihan ng krimen.

Dahil sa konsensya, sumuko ang suspek sa Magsaysay Municipal Police Station (MMPS).

Kalaunan ay ipinaalam ng MPPS sa San Pedro Police Station sa Davao City ang insidente.

MANILA, Philippines – Nakatakdang iapela ng Rappler ang desisyon ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) na nagpapatibay sa naunang desisyon nito na bawiin ang lisensya ng news site na maaaring humantong sa kanilang pagsasara.

Sa isang press conference matapos kumpirmahin ng SEC ang desisyon nito sa en banc, sinabi ng abogado ng Rappler na si Atty. Sinabi ni Francis Lim na ang pagpapatigil sa operasyon ng Rappler ay hindi final at executory.

“The present decision that we are now discussing is a decision that can be appealed directly to the Court of Appeals via what we call a petition to review,” ani Lim.

“And we have 15 days from yesterday to file a petition for review or what the layman know, appeal to the Court of Appeals. From Court of Appeals, we will have a chance to file a motion for reconsideration with CA. (Just) in case CA disagrees with us, and we will have the final appeal all the way to Supreme Court,” dagdag pa niya.

Ipinunto ni Lim, na minsang nagsilbi bilang presidente at CEO ng Philippine Stock Exchange, na ang Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) ay hindi katulad ng pagmamay-ari ng shares of stocks.

Binanggit ng SEC ang naunang desisyon nito na kumukuwestiyon sa mga PDR ng Rappler, na sinabi nitong lumabag sa batas na nagbabawal sa pagmamay-ari ng dayuhan sa mass media entity sa bansa.

”I’ve come from the stocks exchange and there is a very big difference between depositary receipts and shares of stocks. So that’s one area of contention. And we do hope, due to the significance against and its implications especially on press freedom, the Supreme Court will finally resolve that very important issue,” paliwanag pa niya.

Maaari rin silang humingi ng pansamantalang restraining order kung ipapatupad ang desisyon ng SEC.

Sinabi ng Rappler co-founder at CEO na si Maria Ressa na sila ay business as usual pa rin sa sa kabila ng pinakabagong desisyon ng SEC.

”We’ll continue to do our jobs. Our reporters… we continue to hold the line. We’ll continue to report and we’ll continue to demand that access is there. I appeal to journalists in the Philippines, all around the world, that we hold our rights together because if we give it up just a little bit, we begin to lose. That’s what I call death by a thousand cuts,” aniya.
