MANILA, Philippines – Nagbabala ang Mississippi State Department of Health hinggil sa pag-inom ng anti-parasitic drug na ivermectin para gamutin o makaiwas sa COVID-19.

Ito ay makaraang makatanggap ang Mississippi Poison Control center ng tumataas na bilang ng tawag mula sa mga taong gumamit ng ivermectin – kung saan 70% sa kanila ay uminom ng ivermectin na para lamang sa mga hayop at binili sa livestock supply center.

Bagama’t may ganitong gamot para sa tao, nilinaw ng US Food and Drug Administration na hindi pa nila aprubado ang ivermectin bilang gamot sa COVID-19.

Hindi rin niya anti-viral medication ang ivermectin.

“There are approved uses for ivermectin in both people and animals. Patients should be advised to not take any medications intended to treat animals and should be instructed to only take ivermectin as prescribed by their physician,” saad sa inilabas na alerto ng Mississippi State Department of Health .

“Animal drugs are highly concentrated for large animals and can be highly toxic in humans. Some of the symptoms associated with ivermectin toxicity include rash, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, neurologic disorders, and potentially severe hepatitis requiring hospitalization.”

Base pa sa alerto, 85% ng mga tumawag sa kanila ay may mild symptoms, pero isa sa kanila ang isasalang sa evaluation dahil sa dami ng nainom na ivermectin.

Una nang ipinagbawal ng US FDA ang pag-inom ng nasabing drug.

P85M puslit na karne naharang ng BOC

MANILA, Philippines – Naharang ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang tinatayang P85 milyon halaga ng mga iligal na karne ng baboy at iba pang poultry products sa isinagawang operasyon sa Manila International Container Port (MICP).

Nabatid kay Customs Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Raniel Ramiro, nahaharap sa patung-patong na smuggling case at iba pang paglabag ang consignee na Jeroce Consumer Goods Trading at ang broker na si Gilber Gucilatar Lopez dahil sa limang misdeclared na mga kargamento na dumating nitong Hunyo 15.

Sinaksihan ng BOC ang isinagawang 100 percent examination sa limang 40-foot containers nitong Lunes sa MICP kung saan nadiskubre ang mga ismagel na karne at iba pang poultry products.

“The shipments underwent 100 percent examination and were found to contain frozen chicken thigh, frozen chicken breast, frozen chicken skinless breast, frozen chicken peeled breast, and frozen pork rectum with an estimated value of PHP85 million,” saad ng BOC.

Dahil dito agad na inisyuhan ni MICP District Collector Romeo Allan Rosales ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention ang mga nasabing kargamento.

DEVELOPING STORY — Pinagtibay ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ang kanilang naunang desisyon na isara ang online news organization na Rappler, inihayag ng CEO nitong si Maria Ressa Miyerkules ng umaga sa isang international media conference sa Hawaii.

Sa East-West Center international media conference, ibinahagi ni Ressa ang SEC ruling na may petsang Martes, Hunyo 28, na nag-uutos na kanselahin ang certificates of incorporation ng Rappler Inc. at Rappler Holdings Corporation.

Sinabi ni Ressa na iaapela ng Rappler ang desisyon “especially since the proceedings were highly irregular.” at “business as usual” pa rin ang news organization.

Sa isang 29-pahinang desisyon, sinabi nito na ang online media outfit ay “liable for violating the constitutional and statutory Foreign Equity Restrictions in Mass Media enforceable through rules and laws within the mandate of the Commission.”

BOC chief, intel director pumalag sa pagkakasangkot sa ‘agri smuggling’

MANILA, Philippines – Tahasang itinanggi ng mga opisyal ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang umano’y pagkakasangkot nila sa agricultural smuggling sa bansa.

Sa pahayag ni BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, itinanggi nito ang akusasyon sa pagkakasangkot nito sa agricultural smuggling na ibinatay sa “validated list” na kung saan umano ay una nang itinanggi ng mga ahensiyang nagpapatupad ng batas ang paglabas o pagsumite ng anumang Intelligence Report hinggil sa umano’y sangkot na mga opisyal ng BOC sa anumang smuggling activity.

Ang pahayag ni Guerrero ay matapos siyang pangalanan at ilang iba pang opisyal ng kawanihan bilang mga protektor at smuggler ng mga produktong agrikultura sa ulat ng Senate Committee of the Whole nitong Lunes.

Sinabi din ni Guerrero na ang hindi mabilang na accomplishment ng BOC sa kampanya nito laban sa agricultural smuggling ay binanggit ng Senado sa ulat nito.

“Among these recommendations we implemented are the strengthened inter-agency collaboration and data exchange of relevant information and documents such as the Inward Foreign Manifest, among others,” ani Guerrero.

Further, 199 new enforcement personnel were hired, and 40 were promoted in 2018,” ani Guerrero.

“In addition, 82 percent or 139 out of the 170 Customs processes are now automated to reduce human intervention that provides an avenue for negotiation. Continuous trainings are also conducted for our intelligence and enforcement agents in relation to technical capabilities in determining quality, description, and types of agricultural commodities,” dagdag pa ni Guerrero.

Dahil aniya sa kampanya ng BOC, nasa kabuuang P2.5 bilyon halaga ng smuggled na produktong agrikultura sa iba’t ibang daungan sa buong bansa mula 2016 hanggang Mayo 2022 ang kanilang nasamsam habang nasa kabuuang 111 na kasong kriminal ang naihain sa Department of Justice laban sa mga unscrupulous stakeholders. Gayundin, 84 na importer at customs broker na sangkot sa agricultural smuggling ang binawi sa kanilang akreditasyon noong 2019.

Samantala, itinanggi rin ni Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) director Jeoffrey Tacio ang mga paratang.

Iniulat din nito na mula 2019 hanggang sa kasalukuyan, may kabuuang 548 na seizure operations laban sa mga produktong pang-agrikultura na nagkakahalaga ng PHP2 bilyon, ang naitala ng BOC.

P30B offshore patrol vessel deal tinintahan ng DND, SoKor firm

MANILA, Philippines – Tinintahan ng Department of National Defense (DND) at South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) ang P30 billion offshore patrol vessel (OPV) contract na naglalayong magbigay ng anim na OPVs sa Philippine Navy (PN).

Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ni Defense spokesperson Arsenio Andolong na nilagdaan nina Secretary Delfin Lorenzana at HHI vice chairperson at president Sam Hyun Ka ang nasabing kasunduan sa DND building sa Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

“The event was witnessed by South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Kim In-cheol; General Andres Centino, Chief-of-Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines; Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard N. Valencia, Acting Flag-Officer-In-Command, PN; and other DND, AFP, and HHI officials,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Sinabi ni Andolong, ang OPV project ay naglalayong paghusayin ang maritime patrol capabilities ng PN at isama ang technology transfer, partikular na ang human engineering operators a maintenance training ng equipment, operations training, technical publications, at manuals.

“In addition to this is a design ownership, granting the PN license to manufacture/build using the OPV’s design for the exclusive use of the Philippine government,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Ang OPV project ay prayoridad sa ilalim ng Second Horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program, na inaprubahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte noong May 2018.

“The two sides also signed a lifetime service support contract for the sustainment of the two Jose Rizal guided-missile frigates now in service in the PN, ” ayon kay Andolong.

“These planned OPVs measure 94.4 meters long, 14.3 meters wide, and gave a displacement of 2,400 tons, maximum speed of 22 knots, cruising speed of 15 knots, and a range of 5,500 nautical miles,” aniya pa rin.

Ang paunang pondo para sa OPV project ng PN na umabot na sa P3 billion ay ipinalabas ng Department of Budget (DBM) noong Hunyo 16 sa ilalim ng Special Allotment Release Order (SARO)-BMD-D-22-0004970.
