MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ng isa sa mga biktima ng human rights violations na mas gusto ng mga biktima ng Martial Law ng hustisya kaysa paumanhin.
Inihayag ito ni dating Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, na nakulong noong 1973, matapos sabihin ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na ang paghingi ng paumanhin sa mga biktima ng rights violations ay “personal to the Marcos family.”
“We are not asking for an apology, we are demanding justice and an end to impunity,” pahayag ni Taguiwalo, convenor ng Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (Carmma).
Isinailalim ng ama ni Marcos na si dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Sr. ang bansa sa Martial Law noong 1972.
Sa presidential forum ng Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines kamakailan, tinanong si Marcos kung ipagpapatuloy niyang tumangging humingi ng paumanhin sa rights violations victims.
“I don’t think it’s a duty for a president to be involved. That is a personal matter for the Marcos family,” ani Marcos.
Bagama’t miyembro siya ng pamilya, sinabi ng Pangulo na ang kanyang “role as president is more important right now than my role as a member of the Marcos family.”
Batay sa tala ng Human Rights Victims’ Memorial Commission, mahigit 11,000 ang nagdusa sa ilalim ng nasabing administrasyon.
May pondong nakalaan bilang kompensasyon sa mga biktima ng rights violation sa ilalim ng Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013, mula sa narekober na ill-gotten wealth batay sa deklarasyon ng Supreme Court sa 2003 decision.
Hinggil naman sa pahayag ni Marcos sa ill-gotten wealth cases laban sa pamilya niya, sinabi ni dating Commission on Human Rights chairperson Loretta Ann Rosales na hindi maaaring dumistansya ng Pangulo mula sa isyu, partikular na tinukoy ang Arelma case.
“You cannot dissociate yourself now as President of the Republic from your responsibility as an adult member of the Marcos clan who deliberately participated in the deliberations on the Arelma case,” giit ni Rosales.
Sa kasalukuyan ay wala pang komento ang Malacañang ukol sa pahayag nina Rosales at Taguiwalo laban sa Pangulo.
“The previous cases that were filed post-1986, I have not touched. It would be highly improper for me to involve myself in that. Besides, I don’t have time to do it. So I leave it to the lawyers,” ani Marcos sa isang forum. RNT/SA
