Lady rower Caballero nagretiro sa national team

MANILA, Philippines – Tuluyan  nang nagretiro si Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist at lady rower Melcah Jen Caballero sa national team upang sundin ang ibang istorya ng kanyang career.

Magiging opisyal ang pagreretiro ni Caballero, naging bahagi ng PH rowing team sa loob ng walong taon,  sa noong December 1 base sa kanyang sulat kay association president Patrick Gregorio.

Matatandaaang dalawang gold medals ang nasungkit ni Caballero sa 2019 SEA Games (lightweight single sculls, lightweight double sculls) at naging bahagi rin ito ng rowing team na sumabak sa Asia Oceania Qualification Tournament noong Mayo para sa tsansang makapasok sa Tokyo Olympics.

Ayon kay Caballero, magpopokus muna siya sa kanyang ibang career para maging military officer.

 “Just like the old saying goes, ‘Every beginning has its end.’ I have finally reached the end of the tunnel,” bahagi ng sulat ni Caballero na may petsang November 30.

‘I am very grateful for the constant support that you give to the whole organization of rowing and me personally. Please do know that I will gladly be of assistance in any way that I could and is open to any future opportunities to give back to the association.”

Isa si Caballero sa tatlong Filipino gold medal winners na sumingkit ng medalya para sa Team Philippines sa SEA Games dalawang taon na ang nakaraan kasama si Olympian Cris Nievarez.

“I just want to let you know that your skills and talent are well recognized and appreciated here,” ayon sa rowing federation chief.

“If in any way you change your mind, the whole team is willing to welcome you back. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can prepare for the upcoming SEA Games and Asian Games next year.”
