Mas mabilis na pagpapaalis sa OFWs target ni Ople

MANILA, Philippines – Gusto ni Incoming Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan Ople na mas mapabilis pa ang proseso ng deployment ng overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“That is one of her marching orders. We look at the efficiency of the delivery of services to OFWs. So the ease of doing business is our current focus. How to facilitate the processing, especially the approval of documents, for example. In the next few days, especially when the new secretary of DMW enters, expect that there will be changes,” ayon kay Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) chief Bernard Olalia sa Laging Handa public briefing.

Sinabi pa ni Olalia na patuloy ang operasyon ng POEA sa ilalim ng two-year transition period na nagsimula noong Pebrero.

“We have finished IRR (implementing rules and regulations), the staffing pattern has been submitted, including the 2023 budget, but for now the POEA is still there because that’s what Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said — until DMW is fully constituted. This means the status quo is still there and the POEA will remain and will continue to provide services to the OFWs,” dagdag na pahayag ni Olalia.

Siniguro naman nito na ang serbisyo ng ahensiya ay hindi mapuputol habang sila ay nasa transition period.

Buwan ng Disyembre ng nakaraang taon nang tintahan ni Pangulong Duterte isang batas na naglalayong mapabuti ang koordinasyon ng mga ahensyang may kinalaman sa mga overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at OFW affairs.

Sa isang seremonya sa Rizal Hall sa Malacañang Palace, nilagdaan ni Duterte ang Republic Act 11641 na kilala rin bilang “An Act Creating the Department of Migrant Workers”.

Itinalaga naman ni President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. si Ople sa DMW post noong Mayo.

Papalitan nito si Abdullah Mama-O, na itinalaga naman ni Pangulong Duterte noong Marso.

Maliban sa POEA, ang iba pang ahensiya na magiging bahagi ng DMW ay ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, National Maritime Polytechnic, at International Labor Affairs Bureau — ang lahat ng ito ay kasalukuyang nasa ilalim ng Department of Labor and Employment — at Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA), kasalukuyang nasa ilalim ng Department of Foreign Affairs.
