MANILA, Philippines- “Lame excuse” lamang ng Kamara ang pagsusulong ng amendments sa 1987 Constitution dahil sa political dynasties.

Ito ang inihayag ni Christian Monsod nitong Huwebes, sa pag-arangkada ng hearings sa panukala sa Kamara para amyendahan ang main charter ng bansa.

Sa halip na amyendahan ang 1987 Constitution, sinabi ni Monsod na sa halip ay dapat aprubahan ng mga mambabatas ang panukala laban sa political dynasties na aabot hanggang fourth degree of affinity at maaaring maipatupad sa darating na barangay election.

Bilang resource person sa hearing ng House committee on constitutional amendments nitong Huwebes, sinabi ni Monsod sa mga mambabatas na ang tunay na dahilan para sa pag-amyenda sa 1987 Constitution ay maaaring “self-interest”.

“Real change cannot happen until we strike at the roots and not at the branches of the problem. Congress has not passed an anti-dynasty law for 35 years, and blames the Constitution for the lapse. That is a lame excuse,” aniya.

“The real reason is self-interest, so instead of rushing to amend the Constitution, why don’t our legislators pass an anti-dynasty law, of say four degrees for the barangay elections this year?” giit ni Monsod.

Gayundin, sinabi ni Monsod, isa sa framers ng 1987 Constitution, na “ironic” na amyendahan ang nasabing fundamental law dahil ito ang unang Konstitusyon na malayang nilikha ng mga Pilipino.

“The 1987 Constitution, the seventh in our history, was the first time we spoke to the world as a truly independent and democratic nation — the Biak na Bato and Malolos Constitutions were short-lived interruptions of colonial rule, the others were written under colonial rule, 1935; or under enemy occupation, 1943; or by a dictatorship, 1973; or the transition proclamation while this Constitution was being written in 1986,” sabi ni Monsod.

“The inspiration of the 1987 Constitution was Edsa, which wasn’t only about the restoration of democracy through peaceful means — to the poor, it was also the promise of a new social order that remains unfulfilled to this day. We are still the laggards in our part of the world,” dagdag niya.

Nagsagawa ng hearing ang House committee on constitutional amendments, sa pamumuno ni Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, sa ilang panukala at resolusyon na nagtutulak ng constitutional convention, at iba pang amendments gaya ng pagbabago sa term limits ng mga mambabatas at ng presidente at bise presidente. MANILA, Philippines – Inirekomenda ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang paghahain ng murder charges laban sa anim na suspek na sangkot sa pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

Aniya, ang mga suspek ay sasampahan din ng 13 counts ng frustrated murder at three counts ng attempted murder.

Ani Clavano, iimbestigahan pa ang frustrated murder charge laban kay Diomedes Omatang dahil sa kakulangan ng dokumento na magpapatunay ng mga tinamo nitong pinsala sa katawan.

Ayon pa sa tagapagsalita ng DOJ, inatasan na ang National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region na ipagpatuloy ang imbestigasyon sa di-umano ay recruiter at handler na binanggit ng mga respondents.

“The cases will be tried jointly with the previous cases for murder filed by the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Negros Oriental against the four previous respondents who were caught and subjected to inquest proceedings recently,” ani Clavano.

Matatandaan na pinagbabaril-patay si Degamo at walo iba pa noong Marso 4 sa mismong harap ng bahay ng gobernador.

Samantala, pinuri naman ni Clavano ang pagtatrabaho ng Joint Task Force Degamo.

MANILA, Philippines – Opisyal nang itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. si Marine commandant Major General Charlton Sean Gaerlan bilang deputy chief of staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Ito ang pangatlong pinakamataas na opisyal sa militar.

Pormal namang naupo si Gaerlan sa kanyang posisyon sa AFP General Headquarters sa Camp Aguinaldo sa isinagawang seremonya na pinangunahan ni General Andres Centino, araw ng Lunes, Marso 27.

Pinalitan ni Gaerlan si Lieutenant General William Gonzales, na naupo naman bilang acting at may concurrent capacity bilang AFP Inspector General noong Marso 15 nang magretiro sa pwesto si dating AFP deputy chief of staff Vice Admiral Rommel Anthony Reyes.

Ang pinakabagong designasyon ni Gaerlan ay matapos ang pitong buwan na pagtitimon niya sa Marine Corps noong Agosto ng nakaraang taon.

Siya ay miyembro ng Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989.

Nagsilbi si Gaerlan bilang commander ng AFP Education, Training, and Doctrine Command, assistant AFP deputy chief of staff for intelligence, commander ng 3rd Marine Brigade, at Marine Inspector General.

“I am humbled and honored to stand before you as I assume as the TDCSAFP (The Deputy Chief of Staff AFP), a leadership post charged with a great amount of responsibility and a higher level of accountability,” ang sinabi ni Gaerlan sa kanyang talumpati.

Humingi naman ng suporta si Gaerlan para sa modernisasyon ng military upang makamit aniya ng tropa ng pamahalaan ang layunin nito na maging “world-class armed force.”

“I urge everyone to continue to support the AFP modernization and transformation programs so that we can achieve our mission to become a world-class Armed Force and continue to value the enhancement of professionalism across the organization,” anito.

Kumpiyansa naman si Centino na magiging epektibo si Gaerlan bilang AFP deputy chief of staff, iginiit nito ang kadalubhasaan ni Gaerlan sa larangan ng intelligence, operations at personnel management.

“Without doubt, his previous designations prepared him to take on greater tasks as the AFP’s third-in-command,” ayon kay Centino.

MANILA, Philippines – Arestado ang apat na indibidwal sa ikinasang serye ng operasyon ng National Bureau of Investigation-Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) dahil sa pagbebenta ng GCash accounts.

Iniharap ng NBI sa media ngayong Lunes, Marso 27, ang mga suspek na sina Jay Cortez y Orozco, Kevin Mark Maboloc y Yong, Jeffrey Miguel y Quimirit at Jeffrey Ilagan y Barraca.

Ayon sa NBI, nakatanggap ng impormasyon ang ahensya na mayroong mga Facebook accounts na sangkot sa pagbebenta ng GCash accounts na nag-ooperate sa Quezon City at Tondo, Manila.

Isinasagawa ang kanilang negosyo sa pamamagitan ng Facebook at Messenger.

Gamit ang undercover Facebook account, nakapagtransaksyon sa mga suspek ang mga awtoridad para hingin ang presyo ng bawat GCash account.

Sinabi ng mga suspek na bawat account ay mayroong P100,000 transaction at pwede silang makagawa ng hanggang 100 na account pa.

Nang magkasundo sa kanilang meet-up sa tatlong magkakahiwalay na pagkakataon at lugar, ikinasa na rin ang entrapment operation noong nakaraang linggo.

Sina Cortez at Maboloc ay naaresto sa Matandang Balara, Quezon City habang si Miguel ay naaresto sa Tondo at sa North Avenue, Quezon City naman nadakip si Ilagan.
