Pinas ‘di pa handa sa same-sex marriage – Remulla

MANILA, Philippines – Hindi pa ‘culturally ready’ ang bansa sa same-sex marriage.

Ito ang sinabi ni Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla nitong Lunes, Nobyembre 21 nang tanungin tungkol sa kanyang pahayag nitong weekend na ang Pilipinas ay hindi pa handang tumanggap ng rekomendasyon sa same-sex marriage.

“Sabi nga natin, eh, culturally, our values may conflict with many of the values that they want to impose on us… We are not ready for that. Culturally, we are not ready for that,” ani Remulla sa isang pulong balitaan.

“That’s what we believe, ha? Unless somebody argues otherwise. That’s our position right now,” dagdag pa niya.

Dagdag pa, sinabi rin ni Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez na tahasang kinontra ng bansa ang rekomendasyon ng member-states ng United Nations Human Rights Council na gawing legal ang abortion at divorce.

“There are several items, however, that outrightly, because of our national identity, our religious beliefs, and our cultural traditions, and the Philippine sovereignty that we need to uphold and protect at all times, there were several things that we did not accept or we rejected outright,” aniya.

“And that would be the legalizatioon of abortion and the matter of divorce,” dagdag pa.

Ayon sa DOJ, nakatanggap sila ng nasa 200 rekomendasyon kasabay ng Universal Periodic Review, isang peer-review mechanism ng United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Samantala, sinabi ni Vasquez na karamihan sa mga rekomendasyon na kanilang natanggap ay tungkol sa pagpapaigting ng karapatan ng mga bata, proteksyon sa karapatan ng kababaihan, karapatan ng indigenous people (IPs) at mas malawak na proteksyon ng civic space. RNT/JGC
