Poe, Angara oks sa pagbenta ng gov’t assets para sa Maharlika fund

MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag nina Senators Grace Poe at Sonny Angara ang anilang suporta nitong Lunes para sa panukala na pagbebenta ng nonperforming government assets para pondohan ang Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

Naghahanap ang pamahalaan ng mga posibleng pagkukunan ng pondo para sa proposed sovereign wealth fund.

“They are called assets, but some are nonperforming or problematic, riddled by corruption and mismanaged — thus, may be handled better by the private sector,” pahayag  ni Poe.

“The sale however should be done transparently to the highest bidder. The buyer’s credibility should be considered. The proceeds of the sale should be well accounted for and should directly go to the intended fund.”

Sinang-ayunan naman ito ni Angara at sinabing: “If a government property, like land, is not being used, it’s better to sell it or develop it through a joint venture for the benefit of the people. We only need to ensure that transactions are proper and transparent, especially when what’s at stake is public funds or funds meant for the public.”

Kamakailan ay ipinasa ng Kamara ang Maharlika fund bill sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa nito. Nakasalalay na ngayon sa Senado ang panukala.

Sa orihinal na panukala, magmumula ang pondo para sa MIF sa Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)  at Social Security System (SSS).

Subalit, matapos ang pag-apela ng publiko, kinalos ng mga may akda ng panukala ang GSIS at SSS bilang source ng pondo. RNT/SA
