THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology specifically the Quezon City Jail led by its warden, J/Supt. Michelle Bonto, joined our Muslim brothers and sisters in the celebration of Eidul Adha.

Paying much respect to their rituals and beliefs, Supt. Bonto and jail personnel joined with some 164 persons               deprived of liberty from QC jail’s Male Dormitory took part in the worldwide celebration of Eidul-Adha, also known as the ‘Feast of Sacrifice.’

As they prepared for the conduct of the special prayer called Eid Salat for Eidul Adha Helle celebration, our Muslim brothers at the male dormitory took a ritual bath called                   Sunnah of Ghusl before prayer, adorned a nice and clean clothes for the occasion and offered an early morning prayer called Salatul Fajr.

An  Eid Salat prayer was religiously offered to Allah (SWT) by the Muslim brothers led by Imam Abobacar A. Panda of Daarol Uloom Religious Camp Cultural Center Inc., Quiapo Manila, followed by a Qurbani  Ritual or act of sacrifice which consists of distributing cow meat among fellow Muslims.

They regarded the ritual as an act to help them grow closer to God and strengthen their faith, according to Supt. Bonto who has been praised by many including her superiors and Mayor Joy Belmonte for implementing jail reforms and establishing constant communications with PDLs and jail personnel.

Mayor Belmonte said Supt. Bonto has been her administration’s partner in eradicating illegal drugs in the city shown by series of Greyhound operations that effectively stop the proliferation of drugs and contrabands inside the jail facility.

The Feast of Sacrifice is considered the most important feast in the Muslim calendar as it commemorates the obedience of the Prophet Ibrahim on willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in submission to the command given by Allah.

Under Republic Act No. 9849, the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah or the twelfth month of the Islamic Calendar is declared as a national holiday for the observance of Eidul Adha.
