Russian chopper deal matagal nang terminated-PBBM

MANILA, Philippines – Walang balak si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na itulak pa ang $38-million military helicopter contract sa Russia na kinansela ng nakaraang administrasyon.

“I think it has already been determined. It was already determined by the previous administration that that deal will not carry through, will not go on,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.

Ang komento ni Marcos ay kasunod nang panawagan ni Russian ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov na dapat igalang ng Pilipinas ang nasabing kasunduan dahil patuloy pa rin nilang ginagawa ang mga chopper na dapat bibilhin ng Pilipinas.

Giit pa ni Pavlov, hindi sila nakatanggap ng pormal na anunsyo ng pagkansela sa nasabing kontrata.

Katuwiran naman ni Pangulong Marcos, mayroon ng alternatibong suplay para sa kakailanganing mga helicopter ang Pilipinas.

“At so mayroon na tayong ginawa, we have already… The deal with Russia was for some heavy-lift helicopters and now we have secured an alternative supply from the United States through the manufacturer Poland — in any case, we have — mayroon na tayong kapalit,” ani Pangulong Marcos.

“Unfortunately, we made a down payment that we are hoping to negotiate to get at least a percentage of that back. But the deal as it stood maybe at the beginning or in the middle of last year, has already been cancelled and we have, as I said, secured another alternative supply for those helicopters that we need,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
