MANILA, Philippines- Inanunsyo ng Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc., nagmamay-ari ng subsidiary ng Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) ni Elon Musk, na ilulunsad nito ang kanilang Low Earth Orbit satellite internet services sa buwan ng Disyembre.

“Hopefully, we will be providing our services by the end of the year,”  ayon kay Starlink representative Rebecca Hunter sa isang panayam.

Sinabi ng NTC na kasama sa serbisyo na iniaalok ng Starlink ay ang high-speed, low-latency satellite internet service na mayroong download speeds na sa pagitan ng 100 megabits per second (Mbps) at 200 Mbps.

Gamit ang  advanced satellites sa low orbit, sinabi ng ahensiya na makakaya ng Starlink ang video calls, online gaming, streaming at iba pang high-data activities na  “historicall” ay hindi posible sa satellite internet.

Sinabi ni Hunter na ang router kit ay nagkakahalaga ng  $599 (P33,000).

“That is a one-time equipment purchase,” ayon kay Hunter sabay sabing “The service is $99 (about P5,500) per month and there are no data caps.”

Nauna nang inanunsyo ng Department of Trade and Industry na ang PIlipinas ay ang kauna-unahang bansa sa Southeast Asia na nakapag-avail ng Starlink technology.

“Starlink is expected to cover villages in urban and suburban areas as well as rural areas that remain unserved or underserved with internet access services. The service is expected to bring cost-effective internet access in these areas,” ayon sa  NTC.

Samantala, sinabi ni Hunter na ang kanilang  serbisyo ay magiging “complementary to the services of the current providers and not a competitor.” Kris Jose
