MANILA, Philippines – Kontra ang ilang miyembro ng economic cluster ng pamahalaan sa panukalang national minimum wage.

Para sa mga ito, lalo lamang magiging malala o masama ang “inequality” sa hanay ng mga rehiyon.

Ayon kay Department of Finance (DOF) Legislative Liaison Specialist Jeanne Guinto, suportado ng ahensiya ang pagpapanatili sa kasalukuyang sistema ng regional wages.

“On aligning the minimum wage of those in the province with that in the city, we really think that it will not be an effective measure,” ayon kay Guinto sa House Committee on Labor and Employment.

“The cost of living in the province is different from that of the city, so they may have different needs in terms of allocating their income for their basic necessities and other expenses,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Tinalakay ng komite ang House Resolution 1676, na naglalayong magtatag ng national minimum wages, gaya ng naging panukala ng labor groups sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Tinukoy ni Guinto ang inflationary impact ng hakbang sa nangyayaring pakikipaglaban ng bansa sa mataas na presyo bunsod ng sunod-sunod na pump prices kapuwa sa global at domestic petroleum products.

“We post an objection to the proposed measures as these may cause high inflation on top of the ongoing fuel crisis that will impact both in business side and in households,” paliwanag ni Guinto. Kris Jose
