UP studes lumikha ng biodegradable breast prosthesis para sa cancer survivors

MANILA, Philippines- Dalawang estudyante mula sa University of the Philippines Diliman ang lumikha ng biodegradable breast prosthesis para sa cancer survivors.

Tinawag na “Brakong,” ang external prosthesis ay gawa sa aquatic plant na spider lily, na tinatawag ding “bakong.”

Binuo ang Brakong ng design engineers na sina Emmanuelle Pangilinan at Jason Pechardo para sa breast cancer survivors na sumailalim sa mastectomy.

“Brakong is made of plakong,” sabi ni Pechardo. “It’s a biocomposite made out of all biodegradable materials, all organic. It’s composed of bakong pellets and polylactic acid. That way, they won’t harm the environment.”

Ang Brakong ay isang 3D printed at ang sukat ay pwedeng i-adjust base sa pangangailangan ng pasyente.

“The design of the Brakong itself is inspired by nature. So we use generative design to create this pattern, coral-like or seashell-like pattern that retains the form of the Brakong while consuming less material,” ayon kay Pangilinan.

Nagwagi naman ang Brakong ngJames Dyson award, isang international recognition para sa innovative solutions sa mga problema. RNT/SA
