US Indo-Pacific Command chief bumisita sa Pinas

MANILA, Philippines – Bumisita sa bansa si Admiral John C. Aquilino, commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command para sa ika-70 taon ng Mutual Defense Treaty.

“Our alliance represents the mutual trust that is central to our enduring friendship, and this trust is a necessity in order to confront the security challenges in this theater,” pahayag ni Aquilino.

“Both of our nations have made it clear that we are committed to the Alliance, and that we remain prepared to fight alongside and defend each other using all of our capabilities to preserve the region’s peace and stability,” dagdag nito.

Ayon sa AFP, ito ang kauna-unahang pagbisita ni Aquilino bilang commander US Indo-Pacific Command.

Una itong bumisita sa Pilipinas noong 2018 bilang Commander U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet.

Nakipagkita ito kina Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, at AFP Inspector General Lieutenant General Franco Nemesio Gacal.

Hindi naman nakadalo si AFP chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr. matapos tamaan ng COVID-19.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomes Admiral John C Aquilino as we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty, the birth of our defense alliance,” ani Gacal.

“This occasion is an opportunity to advance our mutual security interests and manifests both our Armed Forces’ commitment to the alliance even in the midst of challenges brought by the pandemic,” dagdag ng opisyal. RNT/ELM
